The Day After, For Harold Camping

So here we are, Sunday, May 22nd, 2011-a day after Harold Camping, of Family Radio Ministries, predicted the end of the world, and as far as I can see, all is normal. Here's my prediction about the end of the world--"It will happen."

So what went wrong with Mr. Camping's prophecy you ask--well, I'll tell you, it wasn't his math, or his calculations, or the fact that God changed His mind; No, what went wrong is the same thing that goes wrong with me every time I choose sin over God too. You see, Harold Camping is no different, (humanly speaking) than you or I. We're all sinners, tainted by the fall of man, corrupted by the desires of our heart, and easily swayed by the world we live in.

For Mr. Camping, his sinful, wicked heart led him to make a false prophecy about the end of the world; for me, it might be over-eating, or getting into debt, or lusting, or swearing, idolizing something or someone. For you, well, I'll let you fill in the ___________. You know your heart better than I do. Just admit it, you are fallen, right?

So where does Harold Camping go from here, or better yet, where do I go from here? Well, we both go the same place, The Cross of Jesus Christ, and to His gospel of salvation. For Harold, myself, and anyone reading this post, our sin is plentiful, our hearts are wicked, and Jesus is our only hope. What separates my sin from Harold Camping's sin, is about 100 million dollars (which is what his ministry reportedly spent on advertising). At the core of his false prophecy's, and my greed, anger, and impatience, is man's universal dilemma; a heart that loves darkness, and a heart that is prone to wander. The only fix for my heart, and Harold Camping's heart isn't wrong thinking, false teaching, or indulging in what 'feels' right, it's confessing our sin before a Holy God, and embracing the finished work of His son Jesus Christ, on the cross.

Be merciful to us all, LORD, and protect the innocent among us from the wolves in the field....
