A question for you!
I have seen you write that boys should be encouraged to play with toy guns, and I agree. Can you provide some guidelines as to how boys should be allowed to play? For example, it makes me uncomfortable when our 4-year-old comes up to me and just starts "shooting." I would love a list of what boys should and should not be allowed to do with gun play, as I'm a bit confused on the subject.

Good question about toy guns.
In general, we try to employ the following rule: if you wouldn't shoot them in real life, don't shoot them in the play world (this would especially apply to moms-Lol)
This rule breaks down though, especially with the younger children. At 4, they're still at that age where curiosity gets them in trouble.
It's good for boys to express their dominionative skills by playing 'make-believe.' When our boys play bad vs good, the shoot-outs can be pretty exciting.
